WHO WE ARE
and why we do it
Homegrown Dog is a small, local, veteran owned business run by yours truly.
My name is Jack, and I’ve been professionally training dogs full-time since 2022. However, dogs have been the focus of my life ever since I was a child.
At 5 years old, I had my mind made up on what I’d be when I grew up.
I wanted to be a dog.
It was me and my best friend, Charlie. We spend every single day exploring our family property — a large parcel of land that was mostly forest and streams. Finding where the deer had been bedding, where the rabbits had been burrowing, and where the coyotes had been hunting. My parents would be yelling out the back door to the high heavens trying to get us to come back for dinner. We were inseperable until the day he passed.
I cant even count the times Charlie went missing for days at a time. Wether he was out chasing the female dogs miles away at the farmer’s lands, or hunting the wild life — I would be out looking for him the entire time, worried sick to my stomach that I was never to see him again.
After his passing, my family brought me home multiple dogs throughout the rest of my childhood. Each of them eventually being tsken form me. One was hit by a car right in front of my eyes. The other went into the woods one day and never came back. They were just doing what dogs do best — exploring. But sadly, I kept losing my best friends.
Eventually I grew up to realize I had to choose a different dream, and the day came for me to join the military. I became a Military Working Dog Handler and searched for explosives in hostile environments with trusty partners.
After completing my enlistment, I entered the civilian workforce and immediately began learning how to train pet dogs. Since then, I’ve learned to cure dogs of reactivity, aggression, fear, etc.. If you can name it, I’ve helped a dog work through it.
at the beginning of 2026, I left the city life and returned to my roots. I moved to a homestead here in Missouri with my two dogs, Chloe and Shylow. I wanted them to experience the life I had growing up with my dogs.
Since moving here, my training priorites have changed. I’ve realized my passion for dogs isnt necesarilly to help them work through the stresses and unwanted behaviors that are often developed through being exposed to chaotic city life. Rather, my passion is to help dog owners and their best friends experience the level of freedom and happiness that I did with my childhood dogs, and that I now get to experience today with my two best buds, Chloe and Shylow.
But with that level of freedom comes many dangers — as I clearly learned in my childhood.
The two main dangers:
Wreckless drivers on back roads. Constantly looking at their phones. Driving 80 in a 55. Our dogs don’t stand a chance with this.
Wildlife that continuously draw our dogs into the wilderness. They go missing for days. And in many cases, never found.
This is why I do what I do. Today, rather than teaching dogs to cope with busy cities, I provide services and training that keep them safe, at home, out of the road, and on their owners property so they don’t go missing — or worse.
I focus on the rural dog owner and the troubles they face. Because I understand them. Because I am one of them.
